Governance Board

We operate our programming at several locations including: our training facility, our partner university campuses, and at elementary school sites.  We are governed by an active 7-member volunteer board of directors.

Juan Nunez, MA, and MS in Mathematics

Originally from Guatemala, Juan came to the States as a child, when his father was called to pastor a church in Southern California. Juan has since made a life there, working in the field of education for over a decade. With heart for service, and an inclination toward quantitative analysis, he believes in what God can achieve through the Watts of Power Foundation and is humbled to serve on its board. He currently resides in Compton, CA, with his wife and two young boys.

edith braswell-grant, ma education curriculum and instruction

Hailing from sunny San Diego, California. Edith has served the city of Los Angeles as an educator for 20 years and counting. She has worked with independent, charter and public schools as a teacher and administrator. She enjoys working with children and families in the heart of the city. She is dedicated to the education of children and the overall wellbeing of families. Edith is delighted to assist the Watts of Power Foundation and help them to fulfill a vision and mission that she too believes in. She is presently a second grade teacher for Local District West in the Los Angeles Unified School District. She currently resides in Los Angeles, CA with her husband and children.

Edlora smith-baker, Bs in business administration

Eldora has worked for several non-profits within the LA area as an Accountant before becoming a licensed Realtor in 1996. She has helped many families become first time home owners. She previously served as the lead financial officer for The R.O.C.K. Church for several years. Eldora a wife, mom, landlord, and real estate investor.

asmara ogbai, ma education administration

Asmara Ogbai is an Education Consultant with fourteen years of education experience working within charter school networks, district public schools, and non-profit organizations. Asmara has gained a holistic approach to transformational leadership while maintaining staff sustainability and high retention through change management. Asmara specializes in leading vast learning programs educating employees on computer-based learning modules, blended learning models, and distance learning programs. Asmara’s ability to relate to people, internally as a collaborator, and externally as a representative, makes him the type of person that others not only rely on and trust, but consistently seek out as a thought partner. In his free time, Asmara likes to enjoy the outdoors hiking, biking, and finding new places to travel and explore.

Sherri Brewer

Sherri Brewer is Senior Vice President, Chief Retail Officer of OneUnited Bank. She has been in the banking industry for 30 years. She has held senior level positions in the areas of sales, operations and consumer lending. Her responsibilities include management of five retail branches as well as the online branch, the banks facilities, item processing operations and the call center. She also serves as the Security Officer for the Bank. She has successfully managed two system conversions and one item processing conversion during her tenure. She holds a B.A. in Economics from Occidental College. Ms. Brewer has worked for Wells Fargo, Orange County Credit Union, Business Bank of California, and First City Federal Credit Union.

Danielle Johnson - School site administrator (kipp so cal)

Danielle Johnson, a Los Angeles native, is the Interim School Leader at KIPP Ignite Academy. In 2013, Danielle joined Teach for America in Detroit, Michigan and served as a third grade teacher and kindergarten teacher for three years. She received her dual bachelor’s of Arts in Psychology and Africana Studies from Pitzer College and received her Master’s of Arts Degree from University of Michigan in Education and Urban pedagogy. Danielle returned home to Los Angeles to ensure that all African American and Latinx students had access to high quality teaching and learning. Danielle taught two years as a kindergarten teacher and one year as Dean at KIPP Ignite before she transitioned to Assistant School Leader, and is now Interim School Leader. As Interim School Leader, Danielle will support teachers, students and families in an equitable, fun, and rigorous learning environment.
