Power the Village. Transform Education.

Our Mission

Watts of Power Foundation works to create a pipeline of diverse teachers from historically marginalized backgrounds who can change the future for young people in Los Angeles, particularly for transitional aged foster youth and other young people of color impacted by poverty. We build uniquely supported, sustainable career pathways using an innovative teacher village model that restores care to the classroom.

What Your Gift Supports

Traditional teacher prep programs weren’t built for educators of color, first-generation college students, foster youth, or adults navigating poverty and housing instability. Your donation helps us create the solution that bridges the gaps. Our the Village Initiative (TVI) provides:

  • Stipends that cover living expenses so fellows can fully commit to student teaching.

  • Subsidized housing to reduce debt and stress.

  • Life coaching and therapy to promote long-term well-being.

  • Culturally grounded professional development led by expert educators from diverse backgrounds.

  • Mentorship and community within a holistic “village ecosystem” of care that sustains our fellows for the long haul.

The 2-year TVI program supports college grads through their classroom residency, credentialing and career launch. Our 6-year TVI Rise program for foster youth provides the same support but begins earlier, supporting young people as they age out of the foster system – through high school, college, and career launch.

Too often, brilliant aspiring educators are forced to abandon their dreams because they can’t afford to enter the teaching profession. We are rebuilding the systems and pathways for teachers so diverse educators are the expectation and the norm is that students see themselves reflected in those who teach, lead, and care for them.
